Ensure that you have sufficient fuel to complete your journey as very few petrol stations are open after 7pm, and most are closed Sunday's and Public Holidays (Check here for French Public Holidays). There are automatic (card) facilities outside the Cherbourg terminal and on the road from the Caen (Ouisterham) terminal, but for those wanting to re-fuel at either Poole or Portsmouth before embarkation click here for information. For those traveling in a group and not very fluent in French, the use of 'petrol pump cards' by individuals, to advise on which pump and amount, may help when paying for fuel at larger filling stations. click here
